Oil Burners

These oil burner types of heaters are normally the choice for people who live in the countryside with little or no access to mains fed systems. The oil that is burned is initially stored in a tank very close to the property (usually behind). Ilford Plumbers are qualified to deal with oil tanks and appliances. These tanks are generally made from tough plastic. The appliances that are fitted to the system are usually a boiler and perhaps a range-style cooking hob. Heat only and combi-condensing boilers are available. Most oil-fired combination boilers have an internal store of hot water for domestic use, rather than instant.

The boilers pipework requires controls. These are a filter, fire valve and isolating valve. If a fire starts, the fire valve automatically closes the oil flow off. Oil in these burners will not burn as straight liquid so needs to be vapourised in order to flash off. There are modern boilers that are fitted with a nozzle. This jet nozzle forces the oil into the combustion chamber causing it’s atomization allowing it to burn easily. A cooker in this system may normally use the same method or could perhaps have a pot burner. A pot burner operates by using gravity fed fuel to flow into a tray fitted to the bottom of the burner. The vapour is mixed with air, and ignites and produces a safe flame. An Ilford Plumber has the correct tools to work on oil-fired systems.

1). These boilers are up to 90% efficient.

Minus:
1). Can wait long periods for delivery, so tank level needs to be checked regularly.
2). High price of oil.
3). The tank needs annual service to work properly.
4). No real wall-mounted option for the boilers so floor mounted is the most common.
5). Boiler needs extra plumbing for the draining of acid condensate.
